Last week, Acura showcased the Chinese premiere of their new RLX hybrid, which is equipped with the company’s Sport Hybrid SH-AWD system. The acronym stands for Super Handling – All Wheel Drive.
The RLX hybrid model was unveiled as a new addition to the existing RLX FWD model lineup in China. The new model is equipped with the Sport Hybrid SH-AWD. It’s a high-efficiency and high-output hybrid system that tries to marry excellent driving performance with fuel economy through the combination of a 3.5 L direct-injection i-VTEC V-6 engine, a 7-speed DCT system with a built-in high-output motor, and a rear drive unit with two built-in independent motors takes linear acceleration and outstanding handling to another level.
The RLX Sport Hybrid SH-AWD will be launched first in the Chinese market this August. The car is part of a larger and more aggressive push by parent company Honda Motors to engage with the Chinese marketplace.
“Together with Guangzhou Automobile Group, we began discussing concrete plans toward the start of local production of Acura models in China in 2016. Through our collaboration, we will establish a structure that enables us to deliver the best Acura products for Chinese customers with speed and at appropriate prices,” said Honda president Seiji Kuraishi in a statement.
